Fall Fashion Trends 2022
Though our days are still warm in the PNW, the mornings are getting chilly and you can that that fall is on its way. It is always bittersweet packing away my summer clothing, but there are so many new fall fashion trends that I am loving! Need a little closet inspiration for fall? Here are some of my favorite trends.

Trend No. 1
Leather-Look
Leather jackets have been a fall staple for many seasons, but this year I am seeing so many different leather-look options including skirts, leggings, jackets and even biker shorts. Adding a leather or faux-leather piece is a great way to dress up an outfit for date night or girl’s night out.
If jumping into a leather skirt is a little out of your comfort zone, try swapping your regular black leggings for a pair of leather-look ones or look for pieces that incorporate leather into the details. Shop my leather-look picks HERE.
Trend No.2
Joggers & Cargo Pants
Most of us have already incorporated joggers into our athleisure rotations, but this year I am seeing so many cute pairs of joggers in different fabrics that go beyond the gym and running errands. I recently purchased the cutest pair of silky joggers (HERE) and I plan to wear them all fall. They look cute dressed down with a cozy sweater for running errands, but you can also dress them up by adding a pair of heels.
Another style that is trending for fall is a cargo pant. The 90s and early ’00s are back, so this trend was only a matter of time.

Trend No.3
Matching Sets
One of the positive fashion outcomes of staying home for most of 2020 was the rise of the matching set. Two years ago the trend was matching sweatsuits, and this fall the matching set trend has been upgraded. Shorts or pants, tanks, sweater material, shirt/top sets, from lounge to everyday and evening the style has been elevated. To take your matching set from around the house to out and about, just throw on a third piece like a denim jacket, shacket, heels, or athletic shoes. Shop my favorite matching sets from Amazon HERE.
Trend No.4
Oversized Outerwear
With temperatures dropping for fall, it’s time to start incorporating a third piece like a jacket, shacket, blazer or long-sleeved button-down. Larger, heavier shackets were trending last year and they are back and as hot as ever this fall. Other items like classic white button downs and blazers that have long been closet-staples are also getting an update for fall and are longer and more oversized. This is great news for those of us who aren’t ready to give up our skinny jeans. Balancing a skinny jean with a looser, more oversized blazer is a great option. Shop my picks for shackets and blazers HERE.

Trend No.5
Wider Leg Denim
Speaking of skinny jeans, while I haven’t gotten rid of all of my pairs yet, I am also loving the wider leg options that are trending for fall. Straight leg jeans have been trending for several seasons, but this fall I’m seeing even more bootcut and flare options. When choosing a wider leg denim, keep proportions in mind and opt for a tighter fitting top. And also watch for hem-lengths. Most of us who were wearing bootcut jeans back in the early 00s remember lots of torn and frayed hems from our jeans dragging on the floor. We don’t want to go back there, so choose a shoe with some height or hem your jeans to keep them off the ground. This pair of denim is from VICI Collections.
Trend No.6
Ribbed Sweater Dress
A sweater dress is a perfect fall piece that you can dress up or down. Last year I wore a sweater dress for our Fall Family Pictures and I am leaning that direction again this year! I’ve been seeing sleeveless, off the shoulder, short sleeved and long-sleeved ribbed sweater dresses that are all so cute and versatile. There are so many sweater dress options on Amazon. Shop them HERE.

Trend No.7
Boots
Boots have always been a fall staple and this year there are so many popular variations to choose from. The two boot silhouettes that I am loving for fall are total opposites. A chunky, platform Chelsea boot (HERE) is the perfect way to balance leggings or skinny jeans with an oversized layer piece. They are practical, comfortable and can be worn for everything from running errands to going to the pumpkin patch.
In contrast to the chunky Chelsea, a more sleek, pointed-toe boots also trending for a more dressed up look. The pointed toe and fitted ankle shaft of a sock-boot is super flattering and will look great with a sweater dress or under a pair of wide leg denim. Shop the sock boots I ordered in two colors HERE. Tall, slim and pointed-toe boots are also a great option for dressing up a romper or dress.
Trend No.8
Florals
It’s common to see lots of florals for spring and summer, but this year floral prints are also trending for fall. The deeper hues with subtle florals bring a feminine touch to the more masculine trends like leather and over-sized everything. Shop floral tops, dresses and rompers HERE.

Trend No.9
Bomber Jackets
Obviously, outwear is a must for fall with cooler temperatures, and one outwear trend for fall is bomber jackets. These are great finishing piece to throw on over a tank or t-shirt. You can choose to embrace the over-sized look or go a little more tailored.
I love this sherpa bomber jacket from Express and think it would be so cute for the transition from Fall to Winter. Shop HERE.
Trend No.10
Plaid Everything
Plaid shackets continue to be trending for fall, but this year, I have been seeing plaid everything. This classic pattern in getting an update for fall by being used in trendy pieces like blazers and smocked tops. This cute smocked, plaid top from Target is a great transitional piece from summer to fall. I like a more neutral color palette for plaid, but there are a lot of fun plaid patterns that incorporate fall colors like rust, burgundy, and dark green. Shop some of my favorite plaid looks HERE.

Back to school shopping for the kids is complete, so now is the time to treat yourself to little fall refresh of your own. With the current fall trends, you don’t need a whole new wardrobe. All of the trending pieces play well with others and can be easily incorporated with items you probably already have in your closet to update your look for fall. Throw an oversized blazer over a pair of skinny jeans and simple tank. Try your favorite graphic t-shirt tucked into a pair of wide-leg denim. Swap your go-to leggings for running errands for a new pair of leather-look leggings for an instant outfit upgrade.

Shelf Styling 101
While it can be intimidating and seem daunting at times, styling shelves has actually become one of my favorite ways to add decor and style to our home. Not only are shelves a space to display decorative items, but they can be functional as well. Our Laundry Room shelves showcase beautiful canisters that hold our laundry soap and dryer spheres, while our Dining Room shelves include bowls, pitchers and other vessels used for serving. It is all about creating the perfect balance of function and beauty.
Over the years I have established some simple principles that have made the process easier and ENJOYABLE!
Here are some of my Go-To Style Tips for creating perfectly balanced shelves/built ins.
Style Tip No. 1:
Start with a Blank Canvas

When styling any area in your home, especially shelves, completely clear off the area first. This allows you to start fresh and fully visualize the space that you will be creating.
Nearby, curate a collection of decor that will be used for your styling: art, trays, cutting boards, vases/vessels, functional pieces and natural elements, etc. As I curate my collection, I group my styling pieces by main color, an accent color and natural elements for a balanced aesthetic.

Style Tip No.2
Create Your Backdrop
Start by adding in art, trays and cutting boards to each shelf. This will create a beautiful background for your styling.

Style Tip No. 3
Add Your Main Color
Once your backdrop has been established, add in the pieces from your main color palette. I chose warm whites and cream tones as my main color tone. Space these pieces throughout the shelves for a balanced feel. Make sure you have objects from your main color palette on each shelf and choose objects of different shapes, heights and textures to add interest.

Style Tip No.4
Add the Accent Color
I chose a contrasting color as an accent to my shelves. The dark charcoal tones pop against the lighter main tone, and are still visible against the black tile. Because there are fewer pieces from my accent color, it is not on every shelf.

Style Tip No.5
Add in The Details
Once the primary and accent colors have been established, start adding in the smaller finishing accents–the jewelry of styling. Smaller bowls, books, metal tones and decorative objects provide detail and visual interest. Brass and wood accents add in warmth and seasonal texture.

Style Tip No.6
Layer in Florals
Florals, whether dried or faux, can change the entire look and feel of a styling. They add in seasonal color and texture. One thing to remember is that not every vase and vessel needs florals or a filler. Sometimes the biggest statement is made when an item is able to shine on its own.

Style Tip No. 7
Finish with Functional Accents
Your home is meant to be lived in, so this is the time to add in functional accents. Decorative soap bottles, water pitchers, candles and bowls are accents that are functional, yet beautiful.

When your shelf styling is complete, it’s time to step back and admire your design. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know that nothing in my home stays in one place for long, except for my shelf styling. I love adding in new elements here and there, but only completely switch them up a few times a year from season to season. Following my shelf styling principles will ensure you create a good foundation that you will enjoy for many months.
Do you have any of your own shelf-styling tips? I’d love to hear them in the comments or see how you transformed the shelves in your home using my formula.
